I’m not sure if you’ve been reading the news lately regarding Facebook. It appears that Facebook has been harvesting everyone’s data for manipulation by third parties to exploit. It looks like it at least started in 2011 during Obama’s presidential campaign. That’s the earliest I’ve seen it being reported as in use.

It’s been told to me for many years from skeptical people that Facebook and other social media platforms are nothing more than intelligence gathering operations for the government and people trying to exert control over the masses. I think they could have been genuine in the beginning but have since been co-opted by the government.

Assuming this is true, would you delete your Facebook account or other social media accounts? Do this change how you post on those apps/platforms?

Additionally, knowing the government and other malicious actors can intrude your phone/tablet/computer/tv that has a camera and microphone installed, do you feel comfortable knowing that you’ll never know if someone is watching you through your electronic devices?

Also, all your searches on google and yahoo and the like are cached and catalogued and sold to third parties and provided to the government. If you are not comfortable with this, you should use DuckDuckGo.

Does anyone have any other reasonable solutions to avoid living in this constant surveillance state?

You dont have to have a facebook account. I dont see anything wrong with the governemnt reading what you post on what amounts to a public website. Dont broadcast your life details if you dont want uncle sam to write them down.

I had a client years ago that had a pretty impressive data mining and analytics tool that searched social media for key words based on their client's preferences so that those companies could monitor postings about themselves, target advertise, and all kinds of other uses. The uses described by my client seemed pretty harmless and useful, but I knew that kind of technology could easily be used for just about any kind of monitoring and analysis they wanted.

If you are going to use it, know that Facebook (and others) is collecting and using you and your kids data. They are also trying to get you and your kids addicted to using it.

Yeah it is a little early for all this nonsense. I just find it funny that you post on a public forum about public forums being harmful to our personal lives. If the government wants to track my every move fine, all it amounts to is me working to pay bills, some pornhub searches and random text messages to friends that are harmless. A rule in law enforcement is that if your not guilty then you have nothing to hide. So why worry if your not a terrorist. Cause I'm pretty Damn sure they aren't worried about some one who's got a couple traffic tickets, stole a candy bar, etc in this country.

Never had a social media account.
Never plan to have one.

Who cares what my family and I are doing? Who cares what other people are doing? Who cares if the government is tracking what people voluntarily post for others to read?

If you want it private, don’t tell anyone.

I suggest reviewing the TOS.
