When union workers are getting paid $30+/hr to sweep the floor at car plants somebody has to eat the cost.

Wont hit a max until the auto finance bubble pops.
In other words depends on the employment rate and how fast wages can increase. Right now people are still falling behind in terms of how much they spend monthly on their vehicle.

it actually has less to do with this than it does the fact that they need continuous profit growth to keep the shareholders happy
when less people are buying cars they have to make more money on each one sold

Id agree with you except the workforce is becoming less and less unionized.
