As others recommended, stay in the boat lanes when the motor is going. Only use trolling motor once you leave boat lanes. Have good electronics. Also, have a boat that can stay stable if a three foot white cap comes up, life jackets are also a damned good idea in the event said white caps flip boat. It's a great lake, but with its share of hazards. Have fun, but respect the lake and its dangers.
