Really true. Idiots on this board actually expected a first year head coach with a first year OC and playing over 30 freshmen with 12 having to start to win the national championship.

Wrong.

I think even the O-Critics wanted the following to feel good, realistically:

10-12 wins, in the SECC hunt but knowing UA and AU would be tough competitors
Hiring an Aranda-level OC with an innovative offense, and letting him coach
Probably losing to Bama, maybe Auburn and/or Florida, but beating the rest
Guice being a Top 5-10 Back
Solid Bowl Showing
Top 10 recruiting class with the Surtain lock

That was a realistic "good" season that was indicated based on Miles being the problem. That would have been better than average and shown improvement, while not being unreachable. Instead:

9 wins
Hiring Canada who was either not a fit personally or philosophically or both, and wasting buyout money and time
Losing to Troy, MSU, and Bama
Guice having a subpar season, not used effectively
Poor Bowl Showing against a rather blah opponent
#14 Recruiting Class and losing on the biggest recruit we had to a division rival

LSU was in the SEC hunt late in the season. If MS St hadn't choked the Bama game, Bama would have had 2 SEC losses just like LSU. LSU also beat Auburn who did win the West by beating Alabama.

Well, he still did what people wanted in order for them to feel good. It didn't work out, shite happens. A lot of people get fired or run off a lot quicker than Canada was.

You do realize he was injured right? He played very sparingly (8 carries) against Syracuse and didn't play in the Troy game.

Notre Dame is a blah opponent??? First time I have ever seen ANYONE say that. Who would you have wanted to play, somebody like Notre Dame ??? The only team I can think of I would have rather played would have been USC.

I doubt the average "critic" or lunatic fringe as I like to call them - stole that from someone on the recruiting board - knew who Patrick Surtain was for more than maybe a couple weeks. If it wasn't for all the joy the "critics" were overcome by because of LSU losing him the majority still wouldn't know who he is.
