This is literally the exact situation as me, age and all - except I only have one other sibling.

My parents are divorced and I’m doing just fine; no drugs, graduate degree, steady job, yada yada yada. Although, they got divorced when I was young and I never remember them being together. Is the issue divorced parents or seeing your parents going through divorce?

if that's the case, the parents shouldn't have had kids together in the first place

People get divorced all the time and kids turn out alright. There are also kids from completely normal families that end up struggling through life. shite happens. In my opinion staying in a toxic relationship is more harmful than getting a divorce. For those that say you shouldn't have got married in the first place, well sometimes people change through the course of the relationship or they never showed their true colors while you were dating.

You're dumb
Many children can thrive just as long as one parent is very consistent in their upbringing
Any decent psychologist will say this

My parents are both good people but they are like oil and water. They wouldn't have ever married if it weren't for an unplanned pregnancy

Can is the key word. You're willing to take that chance?

It usually doesn't work out for the best.

If you make each other miserable, what's the point of staying together it only gets worse as the child gets older.

Girls whose parents divorced are more likely to have daddy issues and frick like crazy. In a nutshell, they usually think their parents would have stayed together if daddy would have been happy, so they will spend their lives trying to please men.

not sure this statement is fair. Not easy for 16 year olds to find jobs anyway.

Im sorry but when you take your marriage vows isnt it "until death do us part"

So in my mind you have 2 choices, you either stay married, or you should be dead.

This is the problem with America. Too many liars. There is no honour any more.

Also cheating should be punishable by death. Time to restore the traditional nuclear family by any means necessary

yep. Thats the grey area of the “study” that kinda makes these statistics a little ridiculous to look too deep into. Overall, it’s true that kids with unhappy parents because of selfish choices cause their kids to grow into doing incorrect sorts of things, but ‘divorce’ itself isn’t the main cause. Like Roger said, and I’ll further exacerbate that, parents staying together that fight like dogs is the WORST thing a kid can live with. Much healthier that the parents split for their well-being, which isnt factored into the equation for this study...

TL:DR ..... The study should be labeled “Children of couples who are unhappy together, in whatever scenario, still suffer the residual effects for the rest of their lives”

people will chime in here and say how their parents got divorced and they turned out normal but we all know they aren't normal

Yep. When the parents get divorced a vast majority of the kids become deadbeats, criminals, or addicts
