Because they are morons.

USF lost their top WR and school rushing record holder RB yet went from averaging 513 ypg to 511 ypg and 43.8 ppg to 38.3 ppg (both rank top 10).

Texas went from 92 in total offense averaging 370.8 ypg and 83rd pgg averaging 26.4, to 16th in total offense averaging 491.3 ypg, and 46th in scoring offense averaging 31.9 ppg.

I wanted him before Texas when I saw what he has done with Briles' disciples in Montgomery and Babers. He coached up;

Jimmy Garoppolo at Eastern Illinois
Before Gilbert (2011) - 2640 yards 20 TDs 14 ints 1 rush TD before Gilbert (E Ill 326 ypg 23 ppg, 85 rush ypg 2.7 ypc)
Gilbert's 1st year (2012) - 3830 yards 31 TDs 15 ints, rush 2 TDs (E. Ill 470 ypg 36.5 ppg, 136 rush ypg 3.6 ypc)
Gilbert's 2nd year (2013) - 5050 yards 53 TDs 9 ints, 62 rush yards 4 TDs (E. Ill 589.5 ypg 48 ppg, 217 rush ypg 5.0 ypc)

He pretty much made this a completely different team. Before him they were mediocre at best passing the ball, and they had one of the worst rush offenses you can have. Within his first year he had an 1100 yard rusher and a passer that had over 3800 yards and 31 TDs playing only one more game than he did the year before. In his second year, he had a 1550 yard rusher, a guy that was 12 yards away from 1000 yards, and a QB that threw for over 5000 and 53 TDs in only two more games than the previous year. It's freaking ridiculous.

Dane Evans at Tulsa
Before Gilbert (2014) - 3100 yards 55% 6.7 ypa 23 TDs 17 ints (Tulsa 148 rush ypg 11 TDs)
Gilbert in only 1 year (2015) - 4330 yards 63% 8.9 ypa 25 TDs 8 ints (Tulsa 174 rush ypg 33 TDs)

Shane Beuchele at Texas
Before Gilbert (2015) - this wasn't Beuchele but it was awful. 1750 pass yards 55% 6.9 ypa 9 TDs 6 ints, but they combined for 1000 yards and 15 TDs on the ground.
Gilbert in only one year (2016) - true freshman 2960 yards 60% 7.9 ypa 21 TDs 11 ints, 150 rush yards 2 TDs. (Texas, their rush yards in his first year were near identical to the year before despite losing their #2 rusher who switched to WR, their #3 rusher who graduated, and their #4 rusher who was lost 3 games into the season, and a young OL who had a freshman all American).

This guy runs a pass offense where they throw it no less than 30 times a game on average, and where they run it no less than 44 times on average. He has produced year after year with QBs exploding on offense, and offenses either exploding or maintaining how good they were despite losses.

The guy has been an OC since 2006 and QB coach since 2004, coaching several Texas high schools.

Trust me, this guy would be an incredible get. F what those fans say.

Gilbert sucks. Please hire him. And I'll bookmark every thread from when he is hired to the day fans are.calling for his head.
