Friendly Texas guy here. You guys may not be interested, but I'll give you my two cents on Gilbert.
- First and probably most important, is his offensive system and practice methods will absolutely hurt the LSU defense unless he's changed. I still can't believe Charlie Strong allowed it, but one of Gilbert's biggest things is to go full speed all practice and make corrections in film sessions the following day. For defense, no stopping during practice and correcting mistakes. This is no different than what he learned from Briles and it kills defense. If he snaps the ball under 20 seconds every play and goes 3 and out, your defense is ran ragged. That offense seriously affected the defense in a very negative way.
- He is absolutely terrified of using the middle of the field. Everything is to the edges and is VERY predictable. At Texas, he basically ran 4-5 plays and it was horrible. He refused to pass to D'Onta Foreman out of the backfield although he was an above average receiver. DB's sat on routes over and over after about 4 games into the season. Very predictable.
- He is stubborn and won't change if what he is doing isn't working.
- If his OL coach comes with him, he is very very good. However, I expected he'll be getting and OC job in the near future.
I think LSU can do much better personally but I'm by no means and expert"

If it hurt Strong's defense at Texas, why did he take Gilbert with him to South Florida?

Practice sounds like O's practice

frick it. I want whoever Orgeron truly wants. If that's Ensminger then so be it. Whoever it is, it has to work well and it has to work quickly. If he thinks that guy is Ensminger, fine by me. We need results with no excuses.
Either that, or hire who Aranda wants and Orgeron can be a figure head for a couple of years. He can just be the motivational, recruiting, clock management guy that he already is.

I do find it interesting to think that people think that just cause what he ran at Texas would be what he ran at LSU. I would assume every coach takes a look at what the team is best suited for and what the overall team concept will be and then tweak their schemes and play calling accordingly.
He is a disciple of Briles so he will bring a dynamic aspect. But does he have to have a carbon copy of what he did. I doubt it.
