She would have more formal education. That doesn't equate to a person being more educated. The welder is probably more educated in metalurgy, physics, geometry, electrical systems, etc. Also better educated in basic mathematics since he/she figured out a much needed trade skill can provide more income than a Bachelors in almost any non-STEM field and a fair number of STEM fields too.

That’s fair. I was just counting the number of tangible degrees, but you are completely correct.

According To BLS the median wage for welding is a little less than $40,000 as of 2016 with an hourly wage or about $19.00. If that's better than ALL non-stem fields, and a fair number of stem fields, then the $25.00 hourly wage posted by BLS appears to be completely wrong.

Then again, maybe it's just my non-welder math skills that are confusing the numbers.
