I'd guess he doesn't want to be left holding the bag with no job once all the coordinator spots are filled?

Well yeah but his buyout covers that off year and then some

true but he probably doesn't want to sit a year out. He's a young guy trying to become a head coach not in his mid 60's who is probably ready for a year off.

The fact that Canada is negotiating his departure makes me think there's something pretty serious we don't know going on. No one who is straight up being fired would negotiate and leave money on the table. Not to mention they are working together to make a statement. Like there is something they don't want getting out to the public because it could damage reputations on both sides.
