Another question. If you keep a pistol in your center console of your vehicle, is that considered concealed carry-i.e., would you need a concealed carry permit for this to be legal?

He was involved in an attempted carjacking in downtown Baton Rouge last week and I want him to carry a pistol from now on. This isn't a joke fyi.

Not in Louisiana. It's considered an extension of the home.

A vehicle is an extension of your home. You do not need a permit. I am not a lawyer but that’s how it was explained to me.

§95. Illegal carrying of weapons
A. Illegal carrying of weapons is:
(1) The intentional concealment of any firearm, or other instrumentality customarily used or intended for probable use as a dangerous weapon, on one's person; or
Its on ones person that it becomes concealed. That said if you are stopped it would be in your best interest to inform the police of the firearm instead of them seeing it without you saying something.

CCP is needed to conceal carry on one's person. Vehicle is an extension of your home, not your person. So he can carry in his glove box or center console legally without a permit...at least in LA.

Not in Louisiana. It's only concealed in a way that requires a permit if it is concealed "on one's person". La. R.S. 14:95. LINK

In Louisiana, your vehicle is an extension of your home, so you do not need CCP. In New Orleans, and possibly other municipalities, the police will violate state law as policy though so be careful. If you mention to a cop at a traffic stop that you have a firearm in the vehicle, they might ask for a reciept to prove ownership and if you cannot produce that, they will confiscate your weapon. It is apparently a long, bureaucratic process to get it back.
My advice, keep a copy of your purchase receipt with your other auto documents, if you still have it.
