Most people will tell you to use the river (Lady Bird Lake) as the dividing line. If you work north of it, then live north, if you work downtown or south, then live south. That’s a good general rule, but I agree with the posters who suggested the Burnet corridor north of 45th and south of Anderson. I live in Crestview and love it.

I'm in agreement on the Burnet Rd corridor. Wife and I recently moved back and bought a house in S. Allandale just inside 2222. We can walk to a ton of great spots and easily ride bikes to a ton more. Shoal Creek bike trail takes you downtown and you're still a cheap Uber ride from all of the downtown nightlife. Not sure what the rental prices are but we have friends who live in the Burnet Flats apartments and love it. All depends on the lifestyle you're looking for. If I were single in my 20's and worked downtown I still think I'd rent that downtown apt for $1500 and see how it goes for a year. You'd be closer to Rainey than W. 6th which would be my personal preference for night life.
