Albertsons’s will give a free cookie to kids. One of my fondest memories as a child was shopping at Albertsons with my mom, she would always swing us by the bakery for our free cookie. I was able to share that experience with my 3 year old.

The free cheese you’re referring to is what we call lagniappe.
Usually, you’d end up buying that particular type of cheese if it’s good. That’s what we do with crawfish anyway.

Bring a kid to the store and ask for free cheese from the deli. That's the only way to truly answer this question. Maybe your buddy's mom never asked or wanted him to have cheese.
Publix gives free cookies to kids. Trader Joes has a basket of fruit for kids to have for free.
The Publix deli counter always offers a sample of the meat or cheese they're slicing for you.
Whole Foods often has 3-4 cheese samples throughout the store.
You can eat a full free meal at CostCo if you're there between 1 and 3.
I'd say we're good on free food in the South.

We get free deli meat slices in the south. Deli knows if you're not from the south, so no meat/cheese for you.

I’ve gotten plenty of free cheese slices. I guess I’m Wisconsin cheese qualifies as a free cookie or balloon that these other stores are giving out
