college is about preparing you to be in a better financial position than those that don't have a degree. If your degree is in football and you can make even a few million dollars in a few years you are way ahead of the vast majority of college graduates. college prepares you to make money.
You cant get this through a rantards brain. To them, everybody needs to stay until their eligibility runs out so that they can have the right to:
1- complain about that player if they dont put up super human stats every game
2- leave watching said players at half time
3- complain about traffic
4- complain about game day atmosphere

False either/or choice.
Go pro.
Make NFL money.
Finish school on your own dime, which you should have plenty of.
Problem solved.

What a naive and uneducated post.

1st thru 3rd round picks are not your average NFL player.
It would be stupid to waste a year of your earnings playing college ball. They can always come back and get degree.

Most people say a player needs to stay another year to improve draft status, not just for degree.

There is plenty of time after getting a degree to play in the NFL. The only ones who should leave early are first rounders, imo.

How about staying to go a round or two earlier which would be worth Millions. If staying can increase your stock you should always do it.

I typically hate posting on the rant because of all the damn fools, and the abundance of people that lack the ability of abstract thought; if you don't have the same thoughts as them you're an idiot. . .
With that said things aren't always black and white, and each case is different.
I would typically say a stud RB in their prime should dance their way to the bank...
But in life there are exceptions. Sometimes players come along that have an ability to become legends.
Guice is one of those guys. Players like Guice don't come around often. He is a role model, a leader and inspires countless inner-city kids that want to be just like him which is a wonderful aspiration, but most will never come close.
If Guice were to come back to earn his degree, it would set examples for kids to follow and he would change many perspectives. The courage to take the harder road and finish his degree would have a lasting effect on him and add that much more credibility to him as a man and advocate for those less fortunate.
Now add that degree with any potential on the field accomplishments like a NC, a major award, or coveted LSU records and he becomes a legend to the State of Louisiana and LSU!
That would be a lasting legacy far more valuable than the one year worth of pay he would forgo.
Yes, true he could become injured in a freak accident on the field and never play again however that is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY. Guice has a higher chance of dying in a car accident next time he gets into a car than a career-ending injury. Besides he could become injured next year in the NFL and not be any better off. Those are the risk involved in life.
Besides, with insurance policies and elite sports medicine doctors he really wouldn't lose much if anything, and only has that much more to gain.
If Guice were to forgo his season no one should say a damn thing because he has been a great tiger, and continuing to achieve great things. Shaq is a great example of an athlete continuing greatness outside of the game.
But the players that take that special road become that of legends.
Just my thoughts, but I'm sure most can't comprehend and say... but the millions...
Well if Guice, invest in himself and runs all over the competition next year, earns multiple awards and the team takes home some serious hardware, Guice would have DOUBLED his worth, while earning his degree and becoming an LSU LEGEND.
So that's why sometimes a player should come back if they choose.
But hey what do I know....

You realize an absurd amount of these guys are broke just a few years out of the league right?
Posted on 12/5/17 at 8:22 pm to Catman88
So you think they wouldn’t be broke if they stayed in school for one more year?
Posted on 12/5/17 at 8:22 pm to Catman88
It is about staying and becoming a 1st rounder for an extra 10 million.

It would be dumb not to go to the NFL, cash in and later return to get the degree, with a name and bank acct. already made.... kinda like Shaquille.
Guice can buy insurance against an injury.

My argument would be which Tiger has been hurt or had his stock damaged by staying 4 years? Kyle Williams, Andrew Whitworth, Joe Addai, Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Lafell, Jalen Mills, Tre White, Spencer Ware and Kendall Beckwith off the top of my head were 4 year guys who could’ve left early but stayed and didn’t hurt their draft positions. You also saw a marked improvement and maturity level when they came out that I’m sure played a big part in these guys having great early success in their careers. Of course it’s the individuals chioce and nobody should hold it against them if they go early but there is something to gained by returning. I know QB is a little different but just because it’s a good mental comparison that everyone is familiar with look at guys like Manning, Brady, Brees, and Luck and they way they approached the game right away compared to a Stafford, Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez.

I don’t feel like reading your stupid thread but you are correct for the first rounder. Everything else depends on your success. You have totally forgot about taxes and other bull shite that happens to rookies, et cetera. The truth is you have to be good to make money and keep it in the NFL. The signing bonus is where you make your chops.

Similar but these guys have different skill sets and even 1 year can set them up forever. With that said, most of them live like they'll be making that amount forever.
How about if you declare, you have to follow Dave Ramsey. That would work.

3 million guaranteed should be the minimum to make a player leave early.
That's equivalent to $75K/year for 40 years.
2 million guaranteed is only $50K/year for 40 years. That's a little iffy if you don't last long enough to get the NFL pension.

Thank you Anemone. You can take ANYTHNG away from someone but their EDUCATION. You and I will make close to that amount in our lifetime of work if we chose, without the risk. Education first along with college life, then goals.
