Why would they tell her she's about to be let go?

Yeah that was pretty considerate of them.

Sounds like at the end of the day....they had to let someone go and her position wasn't one they deemed necessary.

Been there and had it done to me. Only time I was ever let go in my professional career. They re-hired me seven months later with a promotion. Meanwhile the asshats who let me go all got fired about five months after letting me go. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of folks. I was with that hospital for 20 years. Had gone through four administrations. That last one didn't care about anyone but themselves. Finally caught up with them. The only regret I had was that I could not have found a way to knock up the medical director's wife. Then again, I am not sure I would want any of my kids calling that fruity bastard, "dad."

On the flipside, I was in the same position as an executive at another facility many years earlier. Letting folks go who have done a good job is painful as you know how it will impact them as individuals as well as their households. Difference between the above paragraph and this paragraph was that I had the decency to get on the phone and help my layoffs find jobs. Wished that courtesy would have been returned later on, but things still turned out well and I made a living from other endeavors in the interim.
