Basically, of what I know of the situation is that there's been a lot of lay-offs for really small reasons lately. They called her in and said they were going to have a "meeting" and then let her know that they'll be making a final decision in the next 2 weeks, but that she may pretty much want to start looking.

Some people are saying "well at least the company let her know." Tell you what, why don't you walk into your Boss's office tomorrow and say "Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I may be leaving for another job. I'll let you know in a week" see how long it is before they hand you a pink slip.
