But most of the state is decidedly unique in culture separate from the rest of the South. Let the rest of them have their Southern thing. We don't need it here. We're more than that. We're bigger than that. We're BETTER than that.
And they must deal with that fact.

The Deep South is the true south: Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, the Florida panhandle, Tennessee. Thats it.

This article explains why Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona are all part of the South.
Of course, those with low IQs will just stick their fingers in their ears.
My ancestors settled this state, they were Texas Rangers and Sheriffs and Mayors and just because a bunch of liberals and non-Southerners come in thinking that they can dictate what is what doesn't make it so.

Virginia > Texas and it's not even close, the people who came to Texas were the second born sons that didn't inherit their fathers land in Virginia. (More likely Arkansas or Alabama, but they were there because they didn't inherit land in Virginia.)

I've never lived outside of South Texas but if Virginia had an oil and gas industry like Texas I would probably prefer to live there.
