How do you think the further development of LaWS systems and Rail systems will effect the need for COS / air support in general ?

I love it when members of the military talk shop. Definitely the best threads to read on TD. Keep it up.

Air to air combat has almost been eliminated for the US because of technology.

Not true, and we’ve made that mistake in thinking that way already.

lol dude I’ve been an enlisted NCO in the infantry going on two decades. The ones who will be pushing hard for constant CAS long after it’s time has come and gone will be the academics that want more funding for expensive jets that aren’t worth what they cost to own and operate.

Putting a human being above the battlefield gives you the ability to see the broader picture and respond accordingly especially against an advanced enemy.

A 21st century battlefield will have so much electronic noise that many communications and control freqs will be jammed into ineffectiveness.

We are still shifting our nation's military towards "littoral" combat scenarios against "technologically dumb" enemies which will lead to a bloody nose when Russia or China comes marching.

Thank you for your service btw

Skirmishes are occurring in Iraq/Syria/Africa right now involving US Forces; communication jamming is not occurring. Are you talking with a near peer adversary?

correct

Russia and China have been sitting back and thinking how they can even the odds when matched against the US military. I'm willing to bet their cyber and ECM capabilities will be designed to take away our technical advantage by removing the GPS and SATCOM advantage we hold over non-firstworld adversaries.

I think it’s just another piece of the puzzle to eliminating the need for CAS.

An advanced enemy can counter manned AND unmanned air assets much easier than they can surface based systems.

True, but that applies to CAS and surface based fire support.

So based on your last post..

Is the US military developing counter measures for these issues?

What would be your solution?
