Ben Simmons says he didn't learn anything at LSU, waste of his time

Ben Simmons, the highly-touted Philadelphia 76ers forward who spent a year on LSU’s campus during the 2015-16 season, says he didn’t learn much as a Tiger. “I think I would have learned a lot more being around professional athletes,” Simmons says in an interview with Uninterrupted. “Looking at it now I don’t even really know what I learned financially or just being a person at LSU. I think I’ve learned a lot more with this whole year being in Philly and being a pro than I did at LSU.” Simmons, who was open about being a “one-and-done” student-athlete at LSU, had trouble academically while at the university. He made clear his distaste for the current college athletics system in a documentary released last year that chronicled his senior year of high school through the NBA draft. Simmons, originally from Australia, went to high school at Montverde Academy in Florida before attending LSU for a season. In his latest interview, Simmons tells Uninterrupted the NCAA is a “dirty business” and if he had not gone to college “a lot of people would be losing money.” He says he was also fed up with the media attention and requirements when he was a student. “I‘d have class and go lift, go practice, then ‘Oh, Ben you got to stay here and do media and the photo shoot.’ So I’d be kind of annoyed like ‘What am i getting out of this?’” Simmons was drafted first overall in the 2016 draft by the 76ers but sat last season with a foot injury.

As I posted yesterday in the SECR thread about this:
Learning involves effort on the part of the person being taught. His comments say more about him that they do about LSU.

I love his basketball but his attitude and demeanor rubs off in a bad way and makes him extremely unlikable
I think we all know he didn't give a rats arse about LSU. It was just a small step to move on. Nothing more
he had zero intentions on winning a natty in college. All it was was a showcase for him and his talents. It was never about LSU as a school or changing a culture for LSU basketball.
Ben doesn't even really knowledge or affiliates with LSU in any way at all now
I was happy LSU could watch a superior athlete play but the end results or nothing to be proud of
IMO I really have a difficult time acknowledgin him as a true LSU Tiger

Ben was the biggest disappointment LSU has seen in quite some time. He had one good game against North Florida, but other than that, he was terrible. I could legit beat him in H-O-R-S-E.

Why isn't Shaquille O'Neal as bitter about his college experience as Ben? He would have been drafted the same out of high school. I've never heard him say anything but great things about his experience here, though.
Weird

I mean, it was clear all along that he didn't want to be here. And I think he has a point with this...
It's not LSU's fault, but yeah, the kind wanted to go to the NBA and if the NBA didn't have a rule against it, some team definitely would have taken him.
So yeah, no ill will to the kid. Not a fan of his, but he's certainly not the only one who thinks the one and done rule is bullshite, and I agree with that point in certain ways at least.

The article in the Business Report makes it sound like he's bitter toward LSU, but it's really the NCAA and system in general. He didn't have to go to school, could have played professionally overseas for a year, but he chose a year of college so that he could get more exposure. A guy with that talent doesn't belong in college, and I do think the system ought to be changed so that the one and dones aren't in college either.

Ben Simmons just has a shitty attitude who most certainly hasn't thrown his last fit. Let him go. He's moved on and so have we. He'll probably be a coach killer in the league and will bail on Philly the second his rookie contract + option is up.

This is nothing new. That sorry POS never wanted to be in college anywhere. He was as TOTAL WASTE OF TIME and was a horrible teammate. He wasted LSU's time. Screw that mofo.

Think I found why you didn't learn anything, Ben

LSU didn’t benefit from him either. He would have done himself a favor if he could pass a couple of courses.

So the whole Ben Simmons situation was pretty crappy all the way around from LSU, to Johnny, to Ben, etc.
However, there is little doubt that LSU whored Ben out...I mean hell did you see the billboards that were on the roads when he was still playing in high school???

Simmon’s attitude is absolute crap, but he’s not necessarily wrong. My guess is that he would have felt this way about any school he would have gone to.
The problem is that one-and-done is a sham from the prospective of the “student-athletes”. The NBA is forcing this into existence and the NCAA is trying its best to make everyone pretend like this arrangement is legit.

I don’t see anything wrong with this.

Can we finally label him more sports board? WTF do LSU fans continue to give a frick about this kid.
We have fleas on campus with more LSU in them than this waste.

I have not used differential equations one second in my 17 year professional career.
I learned far more learning on the job.
Does that mean I shite on my university?
