I don't have the ruger American, but I do have a weatherby in 6.5 creedmoor. I really like the rugers though and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I own that 6.5 creedmoor and I also own a 6.5 Grendel. I just love the 6.5's. I can't put down my creedmoor long enough to take my Grendel hunting so I'm not sure how the Grendel does on deer, but that creedmoor is a beast. For a long time I bought and sold my hunting rifle every year because I couldn't find one I liked. My 6.5 creedmoor is the exception to that. I've had it a few years and killed quite a few deer with it and I don't ever plan on getting rid of it. You won't be disappointed with a creedmoor.

Went to TP to buy the Ruger today. All they had in stock was the gray barrel. Rode up to Simmons and a guy was filling out the yellow form on the last blued barrel they had in stock. Put my name down to call when they get some more in. Hopefully it won't be long.

I appreciate all the input fellas!

Once you get a chance to hunt w/ the Grendel, you'll like it. I've killed about 25 big game, some prairie dogs and a turkey w/ a 6.5 JDJ handgun; most were killed using the 120 gr Nosler BT. The Grendel rifle runs a 120 gr bullet about 100 fps faster than my handgun barrel. If available, I'd recommend loads using the 120 gr NBT or the 130 gr Nosler AccuBond.
