If any rust, fill it with vinegar, soak it for 24 hours, then wipe it down with a scotch brite pad. Clean it with some fresh water. After that you can season it.
ETA, to season it just fry some craclins, preferably back fat as it takes longer and is more fatty

If you don't use cast iron regularly, the oil can go rank from sitting. Mineral oil is better if it's going to sit up for awhile.
