I went with composite about 9 years ago on our camp and couldn't be happier. I just wash it once a year and it looks new. Expensive but in the long run I am almost sure it will be cheaper not even counting the labor for the upkeep of wood. Now I assume you are talking about PT SYP as wood, if you are considering IPE or something like that it is a different discussion.
I do like the look of wood with a semi-transparent stain but it is a lot of upkeep, that's what we have on our dock and boardwalk. Some of the others in our neighborhood use the thick coatings and to me, while it looks OK on a dock, it looks rather "trashy" on an actual deck attached to a home.
