What do y'all prefer, a climber or a lock on with pole ladder? The terrain really sucks. Trying to figure out the easiest unit to pack in.

Climber. I just hated dealing with all the stuff you need with a lock on. The only times I would choose a lock on were hunts in areas with no trees that I could climb at all.

Plenty of pine trees?

Why do you need a pole ladder? Why not get some muzzy or lone wolf sticks? Price?

If it's truly a thick swamp and you have plenty of cover with no reason to get super high, I would prefer a loc on. But if you need to get higher with less cover I'd go climber.

Ditto what alx said. But if you have to climb a cypress or tupelo a lock on will be better. Very hard to get a climber set up on one

Can't do it on public land, but when I used to deer hunt, I had a 6.5lb lock on and a pair of climbing spurs that I would strap to the stand. Added backpack straps and hike to wherever I was hunting. Climb the tree with the spurs, attach a rope to bow or gun, climb the tree with the stand hanging from my side, hang the stand in 3 minutes, pull up the weapon and hunt.

Just hunt off the ground. You’ll get tired of packing anything around and it’s what you’ll end up doing anyway

All you really need is 2 sticks if you are truly hunting a cypress type swamp. Just get yourself 6-8 feet off the ground in a tree with thick cover. Getting high is mostly for when there's no leaves on the tree, swamps usually have enough evergreen's that's never an issue.

I mean 2 sticks or even 3, and a easy hang loc on and you can be hunting in 2 minutes easy peasy. Not even BS'ing that time, I have a lone wolf sticks and stand and you can hang that with 2 sticks in under a minute if I didn't care about sweating and noise. They are fast as crap. No real need for a harness at 8 feet either, I know I may deserve grief for that but so be it. I always wear it in my climber but I'm usually going 15-25 ft.

Just position yourself in the right trees where you are unlikely to have deer right under or really close to you, keep the trails 25 yards away and you are good to go. There's tons of swamp trees that I could almost dance in the stand with so much cover they'd never see you.

What you doing this week? We can get together and I can show you my Lone Wolf lock-on and stick setup. Have used it a lot in the same swamp you're hunting.
