I wonder what happens if a planet 10 times the mass of Earth is on the inner solar system portion of it's orbit. If the moon causes tides to change would it come close enough to cause any noticeable effects on earth?

It would probably take thousands of years to complete an orbit at that trajectory.

It's likely this planet did not form in our solar system, yet it was "caught" by our sun's gravity when it's parent system and ours passed close in the early days of galactic formation.
