I had an English Cocker Spaniel, and an American one. One lived 13 years the other one is going on her 10th year. They can have eyesight problems. One didn't the other went blind later in life. I've not had much trouble with ear problems. I may have been lucky.
They are faithful dogs. Both of them were pretty smart, and easy to potty train. Heck one of them would hold it all day if I didn't come home for lunch, and would only go outside. I've found it takes them a while warm up to new people.
