If you hire someone who is simply incapable of doing the job up to standards, you are still on the hook for paying a buyout as you made the decision to hire them.

If it were possible to avoid a buyout just because your coach is losing more than you'd like, there'd be a lot of coaches across the country without a job at the moment.

In addition to the above. It is an ethical clause regarding professional conduct. In no way shape or form is it ever performance driven.
