Really it's post Charlie McClendon. Stovall, Arnsparger, Archer, Hallman, Dinardo, then Saban. McClendon always had good teams, just not good enough to beat the Bear.
Stovall had 1, maybe 2 good years and then fell off the map.
Arnsparger did a very good job for 3, then quit leaving the reigns to Archer.
Archer had 1, maybe 2 good years and fell off the map.
Hallman, very bad 3 - 5 years. Really Bad. Like not want to watch Bad. Any game.
Along comes Dinardo. His teams played the big boys tough, but would lose to lesser teams. He was mildly successful for 3 - 4 years.
Saban comes next and you know the rest of the story.
