Best talent left the state
Mediocre coaching
Dinardo brought back the magic in that he was able to keep some top in state talent, then hired Lou Tepper as D.C. Lost 9 games shortly thereafter and was fired.
In comes Saban and the rest is history.
I was at LSU in the mid-late '90's. Except for UF in '97, it was awful.
