An elite mid range shooter scores as effectively as a bad 3 point shooter. Now I do kind of agree with the philosophy of "a shot you're going to make is a good shot." but you just can't escape the way the Rockets and Warriors are changing the league.
there is a balance in this philosophy. the Warrior and Rockets are the exception. its not what everyone needs to chase. I think what the 3 pointer does more than anything is shift momentum and build confidence. the Rockets could be playing an awful game through 2 and a half quarters, then suddenly hit 6 out of 8 threes at the end of the 3rd and even they are down, it creates more confidence in their offense. then they roll in the 4th. its like a snowball effect and they are just waiting until it starts going down a hill.
but I digress, for the rest of the league you play by different rules. for the Finch philosophy, for us, if a guy like Moore, Jrue, AD, Crawford, Clark, or Cousins is in rhythm, tell them to take whatever shot they want. you dont want them to think too much.
but guys that aren't as consistent or those players above that arent feeling it that particular night, look for high percentage shots thats how you beat the Warriors and Rockets. It's the Spurs philosophy. A lay-up is the same amount of points as a fade away from 22 ft out. One of them just has a much higher chance of going in. This idea of getting rid of long 2s is simply the desire to get better shots for everyone. It's just good basketball
