“Low to High” by Langston Hughes

How can you forget me?
But you do!
You said you was gonna take me
Up with you-
Now you've got your Cadillac,
You done forgot that you are black
How can you forget me?
When I'm you?

But you do.

How can you forget me, fellow, say?
How can you low-rate me
this way?
You treat me like you damn well please
Ignore me-though I pay your fees.

How can you forget me?
But you do.

..is he talking to himself or another black person? Pay what fees? I need to perform this for cmst 2040 with a prop to be used 3 different ways other than its intended use..what kind of prop can i use for this????

Himself...

His high personality is talking to his sober one?

It deals with Hughes' ID, Ego and Superego.

I think that he is talking about himself. IMO he has recently gone from "Low to HIgh" and he has forgotten about what got him there. But, deeper than that he has forgotten about those that are still low. I think this was Mike Vicks favorite poem.

Pretty straight forward - Langston Hughes was black, I'm pretty sure. The poem is a first person speaker expressing a feeling of abondonment (sp?) at another black person, whom he apparently knew very well, who has gone on to prosper while he has not done so.

I don't like rhyming at all in poetry but I certainly won't call out one of the more famous poets of recent times.

It is him as a poor man talking to him as a man that has become successful.

Basically it is a brotha that aint keepin it real.

Seriously? He is talking in first person to another black person. He feels abandoned by his peer/brotha.

Drop out now.

i dont know why it makes me an idiot to ask this since some said he's talking to himself and some say he's talking to another black..its not so much the interpretation but the use of some sort of prop in 3 different ways with this poem but thanks ill drop out
