yeah, they rarely do.

Just heard Mama I'm Coming Home on the way to work. i get that he may not have a ton of range. But, i like his singing.

He has/had a unique vocal delivery - not quite nasally, not quite raspy, not quite straining - the edges of his voice imparted a musical tension that enhanced both Sabbath's music and his own.

He simply didn't have the vocal ability to deliver the way the NWOBHM singers did (even Joe Elliott), but neither did Robert Plant - but Ozzy and Plant were perfect for their bands.

So, at the end of the day "range" - "clarity" and more or less objectively quantifiable measures of musical "ability" don't count for much if you don't have the songs.

Sabbath, as well as Ozzy as a solo artist, had the songs.
