I spoke to someone familiar with similar negotiations (cable network) and was told that ESPN had been increasing costs since the 90's. They are by far responsible for the largest percentage of cable network costs.

Yeah, ESPN is a huge chunk of the cost pie.
ESPN wanted to go as high as $11 per customer, and providers are telling them to screw themselves.
I believe with espn,espn2,and sec,etc it's close to $9.50ish per subscriber.
Those days r long over
