I frequently hire people based upon promise ...almost always turns out to be the right decision. Good managers understand potential and are not blinded by experience.

Maybe for a young person. But O is what, 55? He has a long resume to show what he is.

I'd suggest ignoring experience, and hiring a 50+ year old based on potential (!!!) is far more risky, especially for a high profile head coach at one of the top football schools in the country.
