I posted this in another thread but it applies here too:
You're all missing the point of the high buyout. The buyout is not for Ed Orgeron, it's for Joe Alleva. He knows that his job is tied to the success of Orgeron. The last thing Alleva can afford is for Orgeron to be fired early, because if O goes, Joe goes. He needs him to have all the time he can get to be successful enough to justify retaining him. Alleva couldn't take the (likely) chance that there would be early trouble with Orgeron's coaching career at LSU and therefore pressure to fire him. The buyout takes that off the table for at minimum two years. That gives Orgeron time to cobble together a team good enough to win 7-8 games each year which ultimately buys Alleva time. Make no mistake about it, this was purely a self-preservation move by Alleva and actually makes sense in that light.

That actually makes some sense also, but I'm not convinced Alleva would be in serious trouble if Orgeron tanks. Alexander is no Emmert, I think he's okay as long as the money is coming in and Alleva doesn't preside over scandal.
