The point here is that it's the only place we went where that happened. If we went somewhere else and I paid cash, but he had his card taken out of line of sight, that place wouldn't be a candidate for fraud on both our cards. Or if we both used cards, but the server brought out a cube scanner on a smartphone, that place wouldn't be a candidate.

In another 5 years, they probably won't take it at all.
In canada, the server brings a portable cc machine to your table for you to pay your own tab.
It is becoming more common in the PNW too. I imagine it will catch on and in a few more years, servers will carry a portable machine and not physically take your card anymore.
