He's a vile man . But he travels to Myanmar and effects that air of overripe , disaffected , suffering artist with the handy arsenal of insults for normalcy- so he's a hero to The Prog royalty. The Prog cool kids have named him Prom King like 15 years in a row. So if he wants to kill the President than killing the President must be cool.

His comments were inappropriate, even taken as humor. But to your broader point, he's otherwise pretty badass. I think I liked his earlier show on the Travel Channel, No Reservations, even better.

Bourdain is a talented but anguished artist whose misery is rewarded by those who consume his product. There is no end to his misery. And he'll have to increase his misery to keep himself and his followers interested. Doing a show in post-Brexit London was a perfect example of this.

My guess is he'd be much happier slogging around in a kitchen where he could look out into the dining room and mock the very people keeping him employed.
