Rogers had surgery today and talked about a few things that I thought were interesting. Also, I had never heard the final extent of the damage, but it looks like it was only an ACL tear, which is awesome news!

4-star QB Justin Rogers bracing for biggest obstacle of his life

Here are some highlights:
quote:

The 4-star quarterback brought up Orgeron and Ensminger on his own when he was asked about the support he has received immediately following the injury.

“Coach O and Coach E, they were on the phone with my parents when we hit the hospital,” Rogers recalled. “They’re great coaches, but this shows you that they care more about the person than the football player. I’ve built relationships with those guys, but I’m not committed to Coach O, and he left a meeting to get on the phone with my mom and dad to see if I was OK. Coach O and Coach E have texted me every day [since], communicating and telling me to keep my head up. I’m a fighter and they know that I’ll bounce back from it.”

quote:

“It shows you the true colors of a great coaching staff,” he said. “It shows you not every coach is going to care about you on the football field and care about you outside of football. LSU has been a blessing in my life and blessing in other recruits’ lives. They definitely care about recruits outside of football.

quote:

“I’m loyal to TCU, but as an athlete, you have to play the game smart and do what’s best for you at the end of the day,” Rogers explained. “There’s definitely opportunities there with Etling graduating and Lindsey leaving. There are definitely opportunities to compete with two guys, two young bucks like yourself. I can definitely compete for a starting job there, but at the same time, you can’t go in thinking you’re better than him because that’ll get you caught up, if you think like that. But if there’s an opportunity you can’t pass on, you still have to play it smart.”

Yeah regardless of where he goes to college, he sounds like a terrific young man, and I hope he recovers from his knee injury and has a very successful football career. Rooting for him.

He seems like a very smart kid. Also sounds like there's definitely a shot at flipping him.. really is nice to hear such great things about LSU and the staff they have there!

Yeah Greedy Williams is also his uncle, plus I almost have no doubt that Marshall will be a part of this class. We can absolutely flip him and I think he just wanted to let everyone know that just bc he's from LA doesn't mean you automatically go to LSU. They have to recruit me and show him that they want him. I think they are doing that.

I also believe from what I've seen and heard that Sullivan could be a megatron type of WR as for as going up for jump balls and in the endzone. No I'm not saying he is the next megatron or anything close, but he could be a real megatron type of weapon when we need him to be with a little more confidence in the guy, which will come from coaching and then also reps against SEC DBs. Once he sees that he can do it against anyone imagine those weapons on the field??? Chark, Sullivan, and Davis. Davis is another guy that is just a physical nightmare for DBs. It's not even close and LSU MUST take full advantage, and I think they will.

This notion of we would like to play 4 WR but don't have the depth is plain bullshite IMO. It's a ploy and I think we have the weapons just aren't showing it. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sullivan, Davis, Chark, and Stevens be go to WRs around the Redzone from here on out. They don't need to know the entire offense. Put them on the field with a player or two that do and have them run around in the backfield presnap and give them their specific route to run. Those three running go routes would be a nightmare for a defense to cover. Safety has to go somewhere.

It would be much more effective if they did know the entire offense though. Could put 2 out wide and 1 around the LOS, making it look like a run play, then he just bursts out into the middle of the field, the safety would more than likely pick up Chark, and you have him covered by a LB, total mismatch in the middle of the field.

If they don't know the playbook then Etling and the others need to stick with these guys and help them out. It would only help the team in the future. After this week I want to see more of Davis, Chark and Sullivan. Sullivan is also a basketball guy so he knows how to high point the ball and go up and get it. Could be a dynamic TE type of player for us. 6'6 235 are you kidding me? The dude is a monster out there. No DB out there can cover that guy, I'm sorry. I mean he could legitimately play DE for goodness sakes, get this young man the damn ball. Let him go up for it, who cares, teach him how to box out and better timing then good luck covering that dude. GT

It is refreshing to hear a young man speak so honestly and thoughtful. His parents raised him well. Good luck in your recovery Justin
