Actually OU talked shite, Ohio State let their play speak for itself last year.

Then Mayfield manufactured a fake controversy to motivate himself, then planted the flag as payback for nothing.

I love college sports and don't hate what he did. But it was an a-hole thing to do, and if you do that you have to own it.

I would have done the ole "non-apology apology"

"It was communicated to me that my actions made others in my program feel as though it reflected poorly on them. I have the utmost respect for my coaches and administrators and would never want them to feel like i made them look bad. I will try and consider how my actions reflect those around me in the future"

or some shite. But NEVER actually apologize to the tOSU.

Do you really think the coach and/or AD is going to keep their star QB and Heisman contender off the field? College football is a bottom line business. Lincoln Reily could have a team of Nobel peace prize winners, but if he goes 4-8 he's looking for a new job. And so is the guy who hired him. Conversely, Reily could have a team of arrogant, unlikeable dip shits. But if he goes 12-0 he gets a huge raise. You don't go 12-0 by sitting your best player for something like this.

Is it classless to do what he did? Absolutely. But I doubt he was truly "made" to apologize. More like he simply just "agreed" to apologize.

We like put college football players and coaches on some idealistic moral pedestal. Ultimately though, the ONLY thing that matters is winning.
