Van Houten wasn't present at the Sharon Tate murder.
She was involved the next night at murders of the LaBiancas. Didn't actually commit the murder but was present and assisted the murderers: Tex Watson and Patty Krenwinkle murdered Rosemary LaBianca while van Houten held her down. After she was dead, van Houten stabbed her 40-something times at the instruction of Watson.
