If this whole thing was truly innocent and an accident that snowballed... I think that if babysitter somehow managed to bottle up the panic and anxiety for the duration to the extent that the little girl felt fairly safe given the situation - THAT would be deserving of some respect right there.

I just get the feeling the parents aren't going to be very rational about the whole thing.
