You need to specify whether you are talking about a pistol grip with or without a stock.
I would never shoot a shotgun without a stock since it'll about break your wrist if the load you're using is strong enough.
With a stock and a pistol grip, it's pretty much personal preference. I'd rather a pistol grip since I'm used to the grips of the AR platform. Plus the angle is more gradual with a pistol grip and is easier on my wrist.
It's personal preference but I wouldn't say it has a huge effect on felt recoil.
