Don't know anything about the x37, but my friend I hunt with has an older 36hp pro-drive. He wouldn't trade that motor for anything with what we use it for. After owning his boat for 7 yrs roughly he hasn't gotten in a situation he couldn't get out of. He has pulled out a hand full of other surface drives.

If you never ever want to get stuck. Absolutely the best possible choice. Nothing. Compares the the full power reverse. Yeah it does have its downsides, the reverse is slower to get into, the motor seems to be a little slower than gator tails.

But damn put that bitch in reverse and let her eat, We have had ours since the year after Katrina and it is still amazing. The automatic trim and automatic reverse would be nice but mine is the original without it. Wish I had the efi system they come with now.

Full power reverse is cool and all but the instant reverse on the Gatortail is way more convenient, unless you just really enjoy tearing up the marsh and need full power to get off of the land.

If you're gonna fish out of it, instant reverse is the only way to go IMO. I can slow the boat down, get in tight ponds without having turn the lower unit around and it's a little quiter than the pro drive which helps. Bow fishing is also easier to maneuver around.

Buddy of mine has that motor and I have to say it runs good. Was going bout 20mph in a 19' crawfish skiff Saturday night with 6 people in the boat. Only used reverse once to get off the bank so I can't really tell how that motor is in reverse. Now I do have a friend that crawfishes out of his pd and never has problems with his. Must have 4-500 hrs on his motor.
