Alternatively, the dragon may be creating a wind-break due to anatomy and posture so she's not subjected to the full brunt.
Alternatively, this is a fantasy story with non-existent creatures, a girl who can survive sitting inside a bonfire, another one who can cut someone's face off and use it to speak in their voice, and several dudes who have been resurrected. I don't think hard science truly applies here.
