I don't know how good of a swordsman he's supposed to be, but he didn't seem that bad with a sword against the hound in season one.

I've held out from watching the episode ahead of time. Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
FWIW, I agree with those who say the plan was kind of silly and was really done to get a Magnificent 7/Fellowship episode.
If they had to do it, they could have at least included Jamie in it. If Cersei will believe anyone it would be a Jamie who has seen the entire army, the WW and the NK.
And heck, if Jamie had gone, they might as well have brought Bronn too.
