All hold lee in high regard.
High enough regard to personally frick his property over for eternity.

He was absolutely a racist. And we immortalize him.
Yet he's no traitor to the US, nor is he an overt symbol of racism like a Confederate monument.

Lincoln was a massive racist
Yet not a sign of racism. You really should read what I write, and respond to that instead of whatever bullshite pops into your uninformed head.

BamaAtl, here is Dwight Eisenhower responding to a letter asking him why he had a picture of Lee in his office.
quote:
August 9, 1960
Dear Dr. Scott:
Respecting your August 1 inquiry calling attention to my often expressed admiration for General Robert E. Lee, I would say, first, that we need to understand that at the time of the War between the States the issue of secession had remained unresolved for more than 70 years. Men of probity, character, public standing and unquestioned loyalty, both North and South, had disagreed over this issue as a matter of principle from the day our Constitution was adopted.
General Robert E. Lee was, in my estimation, one of the supremely gifted men produced by our Nation. He believed unswervingly in the Constitutional validity of his cause which until 1865 was still an arguable question in America; he was a poised and inspiring leader, true to the high trust reposed in him by millions of his fellow citizens; he was thoughtful yet demanding of his officers and men, forbearing with captured enemies but ingenious, unrelenting and personally courageous in battle, and never disheartened by a reverse or obstacle. Through all his many trials, he remained selfless almost to a fault and unfailing in his faith in God. Taken altogether, he was noble as a leader and as a man, and unsullied as I read the pages of our history.
From deep conviction, I simply say this: a nation of men of Lee’s calibre would be unconquerable in spirit and soul. Indeed, to the degree that present-day American youth will strive to emulate his rare qualities, including his devotion to this land as revealed in his painstaking efforts to help heal the Nation’s wounds once the bitter struggle was over, we, in our own time of danger in a divided world, will be strengthened and our love of freedom sustained.
Such are the reasons that I proudly display the picture of this great American on my office wall.
Sincerely,
Dwight D. Eisenhower

The spoils of war go to the Victor's. Doesn't mean anything about how they felt about him. And frick his property over for eternity? Uhhhhhh I'd say quite the opposite. Arlington is absolutely beautiful and pristine. If they didn't respect him. They would have done what Sherman did to Atlanta. Your lack of historical knowledge is absolutely astounding.

So because people are hypocritical he gets a pass? He's a racist. He owned slaves. He rebelled. Just because he won doesn't make him a good guy.

A racist is a racist. Plain and simple. Or are you saying it's okay to be a racist as long as people don't perceive you as a racist?
And it's quite comical you're telling me I'm uninformed. What books have YOU read? What memoirs? What first hand accounts? I'm not going to say I'm an expert on any era of history. But I can absolutely promise I know much and more about any era of history spanning from the roman empire. The middle ages. And all of US history. Than you do.
You are quite ignorant on this subject and I find it astounding you don't see the glaring hypocrisy in your statements

let's remove symbols of racism and oppression that were intended as symbols of racism and oppression from public property.
Given what transpired yesterday, it truly amazes me to see people like you still clinging to the belief that removing these statues does less harm than good.
When it actuality, it accomplishes two things: It empowers the far left who believe they have the right to forcibly remove/silence anything that offends them, while simultaneously fueling the far right's "we are under attack" propaganda.
But don't let all that phase you. The important thing is for you to go to sleep at night knowing that you "helped defeat racism" today.
