That's regular oil. Full synthetic is usually $80-90.
No way I'd change my own regular oil, but full synthetic saves you $40 or more per change. Plus you know what you are putting in, id bet a late percentage of the time at the quick line places you pay for synthetic and they put in reg.
I agree with the OP here and I don't doubt it at all. After an oil change it should be brown like beef broth but not not black like coffee.

Do you guys not have Quick Lube at your Ford dealers in Louisiana? I pay $39 and get a oil change, filter, and tire rotation.

I have always changed the oil in the vehicles I owned in the past until I bought a 5.0 F-150. it holds 8 quarts. Sure you can get a motorcraft filter and 5 quart jug for $30 on sale. But they get you when you buy the additional 3 quarts. It comes to about $55 when it is all said and done. Quick lane will do it including a tire rotation for $60.00 plus document it.

Bolton Ford in Lake Charles does $13 oil changes for any Ford purchased there. I've always changed my own oil but not on this truck. I can't even buy the oil for that price.
I still change the Synthetic on my wife's Honda... and the ATV... and the boat... and the lawn mower.

I change my own oil not because of time or money but because I don't trust a $9/hr worker to change the lifeblood of my truck.
I only have mine in my Tundra changed at the Toyota dealership down the road. I feel like they are much more trust worthy than some jack leg at a 5 minute oil change.

Let me tell you how to do it AND save time AND (most importantly) get a better product.
Disclaimer - I AM NOT A DEALER
AMSOIL Signature Series Full Synthetic Oil (good for 1 year or 25K miles)
AMSOIL 25K mile oil filter
Do the math and you'll save money, time and get a superior product.
I've been doing this for about 13 years.

I'm not putting that much thought/effort in it. I buy regular oil on the way home from work and change it when the light comes on. Last time I did my truck it was almost 7k miles.
ETA: the importance of oil changes in regular port-injected gas engines is very overstated. It doesn't matter all that much.

IMO it's very little effort and I wouldn't do it just to save a few bucks IF I didn't get a better product.

They always have 5 qts and a filter for $30 somewhere with good stuff.
The last change I did they had a deal on 5 quarts and a Mobil filter for $34. I had to buy one more quart to meet capacity but it still came out to less than $50. I should just get the oil when I see the sale rather than hoping they have a sale when it comes time to change! Maybe I'll do the "buy in December" suggestion made here and see how much I save.

It very much is. A port injected gas engine runs extremely clean and isn't hard on oil at all. Use what meets the spec in the manual, change it when the light comes on, use an OEM filter, it'll last till the body rusts off around it. Anything else is over complicating it. The manual doesn't say to use synthetic oil because it isn't necessary.
With carbureted gas motors, direct injected motors, turbocharged motors, HPCR diesels, etc it is very important to be an oil change nazi and use the really expensive shite that the manual specifies. Otherwise, meh.

So this is the new record? At what point did you start timing yourself; when you pulled the vehicle into the garage? After you lifted the hood? As you removed the oil pan plug?
Should I record it for proof? Serious questions require serious answers.

If you do it in less than 30 minutes you didn't take enough beer breaks.
Posted on 8/15/17 at 12:48 pm to DownshiftAndFloorIt
It takes at least 3 beers to allow complete and proper drainage of the oil pan
