Sony Cybershot RX100. The best point and shoot camera you can buy. Uses same sensor as Sony 4K video cameras. Small enough to fit in a pocket or leave in glove box. Alot of venues won't even let you take in a DSLR these days.
I was in a similar situation a few years ago. I wanted something that can take better pictures than a phone, but easy to use. Went with the RX100 and have been very happy.
