this Google shite probably won't be some sort of inflection/tipping point, but it may be

I believe Brooks hits on something in this piece with regards to a lack of belief in moral absolutes. Our society believes there is nothing absolutely wrong except sexism, racism and homophobia. It approaches a religious level fervor. And the acts of worship in this religion are destroying anyone who knows something differing from the new orthodoxy and alternately celebrating anti heroes.
In the new religion, a violent criminal who attacks a police officer and is shot is a saint and a baker who refuses to bake a wedding cake is a demon.
