announced Wednesday his commitment to the baseball program at LSU.
On his Twitter account, McMurray wrote in a statement, "Growing up as a kid my dream was to play baseball at Louisiana State University, and today that dream has become a reality."
McMurray went on to state, "I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to LSU to continue my baseball and academic career."
LSU lost to Florida last month in the College World Series championships and finished the season with a 51-20 record and a No. 2 national ranking in the final NCAA poll.
McMurray went 6-1 with a 0.52 ERA in 40 innings last spring during his junior year at Liberty.
The 6-foot-4, 206-pound left hander pitched once after injuring his shoulder sliding into second baseball in late March.
McMurray can become the first Kern County baseball player to play in the SEC since Stockdale graduate Sean Barker played for LSU in 2001 out of Bakersfield College.
McMurray, whose fastball has been clocked at 93 mph, had originally committed to University of San Diego last summer but de-committed this month.
"A program like LSU is an elite program in the last 30 years," Liberty baseball coach Tony Mills said. "I am ecstatic for this opportunity to play in front of big crowds and possibly win a national championship."
McMurray is the lone Central Valley player in the Area Code Games set for Aug. 6-10 in Long Beach.
McMurray will play for the Milwaukee Brewers team next month with other high school rising seniors, mostly from Southern California, against seven other teams with players from all over the country.
McMurray's dad, Brock, was born in Denham Springs, 20 minutes from LSU.
