I cant help you with the spots like mentioned in the OP, but there are some private sites around and on some kayak/tube rental spots that might be more fun.

For sure, check out the three forks area, it has a nice river along the road and its seems to be cooler around there in the heat.

But really any of the forest service roads, you can drive until you find a spot that looks nice. Lots of camp spots.

how many people are you bringing? if you need a bigger spot I can point out a few bigger clearings. But most can fit 1-2 cars easily.

pretty much most of those roads you see on the map from your site to suches to amicalola are all gravel roads with camp sites along them.

Definitely 2 cars. We'll have two big 8-10 person tents with 7 kids between the two families.
