Memorial is a neat little stadium. It's a shame it's shite in a shite location now
I would be curious to know what year it opened and who some of the legends were that played there. I can only date it back to the early 70's. I doubt it's old enough that Billy Cannon or Jimmy Taylor might have played HS ball there...and I don't know what all schools existed in the 60's who might have been tenants. Broadmoor and Tara opened in the 70's. McKinley was around I think...but might have played on their campus. Istrouma High had their own stadium too I believe. I don't know where BRHS played.
Any old timers here with some knowledge?
ETA: apparently they started playing HS games there in 1956. Would love to hear if anyone has memories of games they might have seen there. The oldest recounts I have heard have been about the earlier-mentioned Grantland Rice Bowl in the 70s

Memorial Stadium opened in '52. Cannon and Taylor absolutely played there in HS.

Went to a game between Bogalusa and Istrouma in the early 60s.

Istrouma started using their stadium in th mid 70's and hosted a lot of games as all the other schools used Memorial or Olympia and each stadium had 4 games a week. East Ascension was in the same district as the BR schools and hosted a lot of games.
In 1964, the Friday before Hurricane Hilda hit LA, my brother was a Freshman at Catholic High in the band and they had a game at Memorial. My father was at the game and said the light poles swayed in the wind. No cancellations in the 60's
